The Hanseatic League is a major trading network center in the Baltic. The growing wealth of the merchant elite undermines the power of the nobility, but also increases the threat of privateers. To get rid of these so called Likedelers, Saxony can employ them to fight for the cause of the Hanse. Furthermore, the wealthy Hanseatic merchants balance their lack of a proper knightly class by hiring powerful Rhenish Mercenaries.

This is a policy decision for Saxony, which diasbles knightly cavalry but boosts the speed of merchants and merchant barques, gives +2 attack and +10 HP to militia infantry, and enables Rhenish Knights and Caravels (here known as Likedelers).

Historical BackgroundEdit

The Hanseatic League (also known as the Hanse or Hansa) was an economic alliance of trading cities and their guilds that dominated trade along the coast of Northern Europe in the later Middle Ages. It stretched from the Baltic to the North Sea and inland during the Late Middle Ages and early modern period (c.13th–17th centuries). The Hanseatic cities had their own legal system and furnished their own protection and mutual aid, and thus established a sort of political autonomy and in some cases created political entities of their own.
